There’s a huge amount to do. We’re going to need as much help as we can get from our own people and our customers, to make London 2012 the huge success it deserves to be.
We’ve brought together a team of top sporting personalities to lead and inspire our 100,000 employees and millions of BT customers to become volunteers, coaches and mentors for young British athletes aiming to compete in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Our sporting ambassadors include both household names and Olympic hopefuls. Headed by Dame Kelly Holmes, these present and future sporting greats will be promoting our partnership with the Olympics at roadshows, presentations, team meetings, recognition events, and development workshops.
Dame Kelly Holmes said: “I’m thrilled to be part of BT’s London 2012 Ambassador team. The Olympic Games is not only about sport. It’s also about inspiring people – young and old – all over the world to develop and perform at their best in whatever they choose to do”.
The team includes:
Track cyclist Chris Hoy, multiple world champion and winner of Olympic gold and silver medals.
19 year-old Shanaze Reade, Women’s Senior UCI BMX World Champion and part of the gold-medal-winning women’s sprint team at the 2008 UCI Track World Championships.
Equally at home on the basketball court and the small screen, Ade Adepitan is one of the UK’s most recognisable Paralypmians
Dame Ellen MacArthur, who sailed single-handed around the world in 2001 and holds five World Sailing Speed Racing Council records.
Ben Ainslie, one of Britain’s most successful Olympic sailors. Ben is aiming to win a third successive Olympic gold medal in Beijing.
BT employee Richard Fox, who is a midfielder for England’s cerebral palsy football team.
Frances Nicholls, a BT employee who is hoping to compete in the GB women’s rowing team in the London 2012 Olympics.
Leon Taylor, 2004 Athens Olympic silver medallist, is regarded as one of the world's top platform divers.
