Leon Taylor's daily diary from Beijing

Saturday 9th August

After such an amazing opening ceremony, the Olympic Village is really buzzing with excitement now. I was lucky enough to watch the ceremony from the third level of the Ling Long Pagoda - a huge tower of pods where the BBC studio is located. It was absolutely phenominal - we looked down upon the incredible performances and fireworks, as well as watching the live feed on BBC. I then presented on BBC as the ceremony ended, finishing off a remarkable evening.

Today I've been soaking up the great atmosphere of the first day of the Games, watching the fencing, something I've never seen before which was fascinating, and also the beach volleyball. Other than that I've been hanging out in the Team GB lodge with all the athletes and their friends and family. The lodge is a brilliant place for the athletes to just relax and mentally prepare for their events. There is wifi internet, BBC feeds, complimentary snacks, British flags pinned up everywhere and walls filled with messages of support from British Olympic greats such as Dame Kelly Homes.

Young diver Tom Daley is doing great relaxing in the lodge away from the media. He loved the opening ceremony and there's a huge buzz around him - he really is hot property. He's handling the pressure just fine, as he always does. It's a massive ask for him standing in front of everyone on that board, but we've got to put no expectations on him and just let him do his thing. Today BT Ambassador Ben Ainslie kicked off his quest to win his thrid consecutive gold medal with a good performance. Let's hope he can keep the momentum and continue strongly over the next few days.
