BT is The Official Communications Services Partner for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Why? Because we fundamentally believe in the power of communication to help make a better world. The power to help people achieve their full potential – through technology and through communities.
The Games are about excellence, and we’re going to give this Games the most comprehensive, gold medal-winning communications infrastructure ever.
The eyes of the world are going to be on London in 2012, and we want to make sure they’re not going to miss a single thing.
At BT, we’ll be responsible for communications between 94 venues, 4,500 kilometres of cabling, 14,000 mobile phones, 16,000 fixed line handsets, and 40 Olympic TV channels. And that’s just scratching the surface.
Fulfilling potentialAnd just as the Games are about more than sport, BT is about more than technology.
We’re passionate about communities and the people who create them.
We want people everywhere to thrive in whatever they choose to do. As we build the communications networks for the Games themselves, we’re also building on our track record of support for education, culture, and sporting communities around the world, helping to release the potential in all of us.
So we’re delighted that London 2012 has also chosen to champion sustainability, education and helping young people achieve their potential – all subjects close to our heart.
At BT, we give 1% of our annual profit to charity and education initiatives. Our ‘Better World’ programme has been helping children in need for 25 years, promoting the development of young people’s communication skills, and giving them a voice in society.
We’re also proud of our long association with, and support for, the Paralympic movement. We were the British Paralympic Association’s (BPA) first commercial partner in 1989.
In addition, our sponsorship of the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust helps to give aspiring young athletes the life skills to help them become the best. As a founding partner, we help by offering services like teleconferencing and broadband, as well as the time and expertise of the many BT people who volunteer as coaches and mentors.
We want our involvement to make a world of difference to London 2012. By supplying the essential communications infrastructure, by supporting athletes, and by being an active, determined sustainability partner, BT is bringing it all together for London 2012.
