I had a bit of a panic when I first left school. I'd decided not to go to uni, and was working as a Saturday girl in Sainsbury's but I wanted to get going in a career. So when I heard about Apprenticeships I thought what the hell, I'll go for it. I chose BT because the technical stuff sounded good, and it's all worked out nicely.

Since I started here, I've done a couple of different placements, and now I'm working in Network Planning. There's two parts to what I do. I make sure that the network runs smoothly. And I'm part of the team setting up and looking after our '21st Century network'. This is cool because this network's really new, and I know just as much about it as the rest of my team. So I'm not like a spare part. My job is actually useful.

I think life here's what you make of it. But people are so open to helping you. Like last month, I was doing a presentation to the new intake of Apprentices to welcome them, and the two of us doing it decided to send an email to the Chief Executive's office to ask him if he'd like to record a message for the new guys. We didn't really expect him to reply, but the next thing I knew we were sitting in a shiny recording studio - just me, my friend and the Chief Executive of BT talking away as if we were all on the same level. Well not exactly the same level, but you know what I mean.
