You will need to make a note of which e-mail address you have changed it to as this is what you will be using to log on in future.

Why do you need to carry out identity and right to work checks?

We need to make sure that we protect our employees, customers and assets. We carry out pre-employment checks on all people that have access to BT buildings and systems.

In the UK it is illegal to employ someone who does not have the right to work in the UK. If we did we’d be subject to severe fines and penalties.

Why do you need my date of birth?

We use your date of birth to check if you have worked for BT before. We need to know this as it may have an impact on your pension. In some cases we may not be able to re-employ you, this will depend on why you left us before.

What do you do with my personal details?

You’ll be asked to provide personal data to support your job application. Any personal information will only be used for this purpose. It is your responsibility to ensure that any information, which is provided to us, is accurate and is updated if any details change during the course of the recruitment exercise.

We will ask for information to enable us to fairly select the right people for jobs. This information includes past employment details, educational qualifications, languages and volunteer activities, for example, membership of the Territorial Army. We collect other information from pre-employment checks prior to making a job offer, for example, we need documentation from you to prove that you are who you say you are and that you have the legal right to work in the country you are applying to work in, we also carry out criminal records checks, check health disclosures and seek references.

What happens if my checks are not successful?

If you do not have the right to work in the UK or no proof of identity we will be unable to offer you a job with us.
