Our Summer Intern Programme is designed to give current MBA students a chance to work with BT during their summer vacation. It provides a challenging business project, and the opportunity to assess the BT working environment with a view to gaining an offer to join the full-time MBA Leadership Programme. The profile of MBA students who join us over the summer are very similar to the full-time programme in terms of the diversity and backgrounds, and you will work alongside full-time members to gain a real taste of BT and the programme.

Projects that summer interns are assigned to range across functions (delivering an enhanced customer experience, cost transformation and future growth across BT). In the past, the focus of such projects has included:

  • Triple play growth strategy;
  • Rural broadband strategy;
  • Wholesale strategy growth;
  • Energy related communications;
  • Silicon Valley trends;
  • On-line acceleration;
  • Sales transformation

Job Description: Summer Internship

Purpose of the role

Our Summer Internship Programme is designed to give current MBA students a chance to work with BT during their summer vacation. It provides a challenging business project, and the opportunity to assess the BT working environment with a view to gaining an offer to join the full-time MBA Leadership Programme; this is our preferred route to recruitment. The profile of MBA students who join us over the summer are very similar to the full-time programme in terms of the diversity and backgrounds, and you will work alongside full-time members to gain a real taste of BT and the programme. The internship will run from June to August 2011.

The MBA Leadership Programme (MLP) is sponsored by the CEO of BT Innovate & Design and is operated as a group wide programme. The programme has been designed to develop the future senior leaders for BT. The MLP is an 18 month rotational programme, where you will work on assignments to support the key business priorities across BT. There are opportunities to expand your network, gain exposure to senior leaders and undertake training with a view to develop a high-profile career within the organisation.

Key tasks and responsibilities (project dependent)

  • Identify and execute on key projects: driving strategic objectives across the business, and providing analysis, briefings and recommendations to business partners and other senior level sponsors
  • Deliver against BT’s top strategic priorities, including customer experience projects
  • Lead programme/project management assignments, and lead cross-LoB and virtual project teams
  • Identify growth opportunities through innovation, and lead on product evolution
  • Formulate strategies, develop business cases and recommendations, and present them to executive management
  • Undertake cost transformation activities, including performing due diligence and financial analysis in support of vendor optimisation, product introduction/withdrawal and assessment of external ventures
  • Where appropriate, support business development activities and advise on commercial opportunities

Minimum qualifications and experience

  • Studying for an MBA Degree at a top business school
  • Proven track record in consulting or delivery management in disciplines such as operations, strategy, business development or innovation to name but a few
  • Experience in telecom, IT, media and/or internet industries

 

Additional skills and experience

  • Strong leadership skills with a passion for achieving results and challenging the status-quo
  • Strong business skills – finance, strategy, operations – and proven commercial experience and judgement
  • Strong analytical skills with project/product management experience and the ability to see the bigger picture
  • Ability to translate, communicate and present complex problems in a clear, succinct way to both senior executives and highly technical individuals
  • Adept at working in a competitive, changing environment, and managing multiple stakeholders
