Global operations

BT consists of four principle business units (or ‘market facing units’): Global Services, BT Retail, BT Wholesale and Openreach. Together these business units are responsible for the financial performance of the BT Group to our shareholders. Each business unit is supported by world-class networks and IT experts from BT Operate and BT Design.

With around 100,000 employees globally, we have an extensive global presence to support international and multi-national organisations. In the UK alone, we manage some 21 million customers undertaking 12 million transactions every day. We connect a broadband line every 10 seconds, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Outside of the UK there are around 18,000  BT employees, working across 50 countries to provide local availability of business, technology, service and support across 170 countries. These professionals deliver the networked IT services requirements of our multi-site, global customers.

BT Global Services (GS) is responsible for managing the customer relationship of BT’s global enterprise customers across four regional market units: UK, EMEA & LatAm, Asia Pacific and the Americas.

GS works closely with BT Operate and BT Innovate & Design teams to deliver an excellent and competitive customer experience. Specifically:

  • BT Innovate & Design is responsible for designing and developing new services over our global 21CN platform, achieving world class reliability and cost efficiency.
  • BT Operate is responsible for deploying and operating new services. It applies world class standards to testing, operating and monitoring software-driven services and networks.
