Since joining BT in late 2004, I've been involved in a number of projects within the BT Exact NetCentricity program. Basically, I'm getting to use the latest technology to generate value for our customers. My typical day starts at around 8:30am and is a mix of dealing with colleagues through email or meetings, developing strategies for ongoing projects, working towards project deliveries and keeping up to date with the newest online technology developments.

The NetCentricity program is just one example of BT's commitment to research and development of leading edge technology that is used to better serve our customers. From the top down, this is a place where ambitious goals are set and people are energised to achieve them. The result is a company with offices on six continents and a huge range of service offerings. How many companies do you know that can offer wireless broadband, computer hardware, global networks and custom applications?

BT is changing fast so there's a corresponding need for all of us to act more quickly. Even if a new idea doesn't work out, this means you waste less time going down the wrong path, and can learn from that experience. This attitude has created a new culture at BT where people are less resistant to new ideas. Speaking personally, this change in culture makes it a more exciting environment to work in, as well as allowing my team to deliver functionality to our customers quicker.

The atmosphere at BT is challenging yet rewarding.  Everyone wants to see BT succeed, and with so many smart people around there are always slightly different thoughts on the best way to achieve that success.  That said, people are open-minded and discussion usually leads to a better answer than the original proposal.
