Since joining BT I’ve been working with the Build & Integration Control team which helps Field Engineers add new equipment and new connections within the SDH Network. As well as my field work, I’ve also been going to college to study a BTEC in Telecommunications.

At the moment my job involves a lot of job shadowing. I’ll go in to work to check my emails then I’ll go and sit with my assigned “buddy” or trainer. We’ll usually pick up 3 or 4 jobs a day and I’ll help out wherever I can. The best thing about my job is the people I get to meet; all my fellow Apprentices are really fun to be with and my operational and apprentice teams are really encouraging and are always really willing to help. It keeps you motivated to do your best in your work and your study.

My team has changed quite a lot recently as we’ve have gone from dealing with all types of technology to having smaller groups specialising in particular equipment. This has been good for me as an Apprentice as I’m getting great training on all the new and existing technologies.

Change is definitely something you can influence within BT as the company is always looking for advice on making the company better. If you feel that something really isn’t right or needs to be changed, you are encouraged to pursue the matter and BT are always happy to listen to suggestions.
