Environment and Climate Change

Wind for change

As one of the UK’s largest consumers of electricity, we’re focused on saving energy wherever possible. We also aim to generate 25% of our current electricity needs from ’green’ energy by 2016 (the equivalent to powering 122,000 homes).

BT’s wind farm initiative - Wind for change - is the UK’s biggest corporate green energy project outside the energy sector and is part of a wider company environmental programme where we are committed to:

  • Reducing our own carbon footprint
  • Influencing our suppliers to produce products that use less energy
  • Helping our customers by offering products & services that use less energy
  • Working with our employees to reduce their carbon footprint at home and work

The climate and energy challenge

Many people care about climate change and are keen to see energy produced in a sustainable way.

The climate and energy challenge doesn’t just concern governments and businesses – it impacts us all.

There are clear objectives set from international through to local levels.

  • Europe hopes to generate 20% of energy from renewable sources by 2020
  • UK Government is aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by 80% by 2050
  • Regional targets are in place across the UK.
