We started measuring our carbon footprint in the UK in 1996 and have already reduced it by 58%. Our challenge now is to achieve an 80% reduction in CO2 intensity world-wide by 2020.
BT does not plan to buy large scale offsets in order to become carbon neutral, we intend to reduce our footprint in other proactive ways. The key areas we are focusing on are our network, data centres, estate, travel and fleet.
Wind for change
BT’s wind farm initiative is the UK’s biggest corporate green energy project outside the energy sector aimed at generating 25% of our current electricity needs from ’green’ energy by 2016.
Agile working
BT encourages agile working, making the most of appropriate workplace solutions to enable people to do their job more efficiently and effectively.
21CN data centre
Our new data centres are being designed to use 60 per cent less power than their predecessors.
