Small changes make a big difference

BT has launched an initiative called 'living lightly' which encourages people to make small changes which will have a positive impact on the world we live in.

A special website has been developed to capture pledges that people can make to change their behaviour in and see the benefits for themselves.

On the site you can view a range of ideas in different categories, add them to your pledge list and then register to join our pledge community by completing a simple form. You can also 'tell a friend' about the site, 'suggest a pledge' or let us have general feedback.

Individuals

Living lightly bannerThe 'live lightly' website is being promoted to BT people and we are also encouraging them to tell friends, family and other colleagues about it. This is part of our effort to engage our people in reducing their personal carbon footprints.

Find out how you can make a difference about the home, in the garden, on the move, when shopping around, at work or on holiday on our live lightly website.

Small to medium enterprises (SME’s)

Small steps – when taken by a large number of individuals - make a big difference. With 4.3 million small businesses in the UK alone, the collective impact could be incredible.

And remember, being environmentally sustainable and helping your business to succeed can go hand in hand. What’s good for the environment can be good for your business too. The top 5 things that you can encourage your people to do to reduce their carbon footprint at work are:

  1. Take up conferencing
  2. Reduce unnecessary trips back to the office by using mobile communications technology
  3. Turn off office equipment at the end of the day
  4. Recycle
  5. Take-up flexible working

As part of Small Business Week 2007’s ‘Green Day’, BT Business has launched an ‘Understanding Green Business Practices’ guide to help SMEs understand how these sustainable business practices can deliver benefits to the environment and their business. You can download the guide here.

Visit the ‘at work’ and ‘on the move’ sections of the live lightly website for more ideas and make your pledges. You can also use the ‘tell a friend’ option on the site to encourage your colleagues to get involved.
