Take action

Many of the things we do in our daily lives have an impact on the environment and climate change. It isn’t true that “only the big things matter” and “what I do doesn’t make any difference”. Our day-to-day choices play their part in shaping the bigger picture and all of our individual actions combined can have a very real impact.

Small changes make a big difference

BT has launched a website to suggest ideas and capture pledges that people can make to change their behaviour in small ways and see the benefits for themselves. You can access the ‘live lighly’ pledge site here.

You might also be interested to take a look at our interactive house  for some ideas.

Calculate your carbon footprint

You could also use BT’s carbon calculator  to calculate your carbon footprint and come back to see how it has changed by making changes at home, at work or in your local community.

“I believe that climate change is the most important global issue. Not a day goes past without another story in the news that reinforces the evidence. But what does it all mean? The simple truth is that humans are adding around 70 million tonnes of invisible carbon dioxide every day to the atmosphere. We do this inadvertently when we heat and cool our buildings, run equipment, and move ourselves and our goods around the planet.

So what can we do personally? A very good place to start is to calculate our own carbon emissions. There are nearly always things we can do to reduce relatively easily, and understanding how our own personal carbon ‘footprint’ adds up is the best way to identify where to start.”
