Wind farm locations
We will be developing a number of sites across the UK - some on our land and others on land owned by 3rd parties.
The first thing we need to do when developing a site is to assess the wind resource. To do this, we need to erect an anemometry (or ‘met’) mast, for which we need planning permission from the appropriate planning authority.
We have applied for permission to erect met masts at the following sites:
- Scousburgh (Shetlands)
- Bodmin (Cornwall)
- Heysham (Lancashire)
- Dalton (Cumbria)
Met masts have been erected and are operational at:
- Goonhilly Earth Station (Cornwall)
- Great Shelfin Farm (Devon)
- Wideford Hill (Orkneys)
- Threapland (previously known as Wharrels Hill - Cumbria)
- Easington (previously known as Thompsons Farm - Humberside)
In parallel with the met mast applications, we are talking to the various stakeholders we need to work with to develop detailed proposals at the sites. These include organisations like the local planning authorities (LPAs), Ministry of Defence, RSPB, Natural England, elected representatives and, most importantly, local communities.
We have prepared the answers to a number of questions about the wind farm project which you can read on this site.
