Dr Justin Whatling

Director of Strategy, Chief Clinical Officer, BT Health

Justin is the Director of Strategy and Chief Clinical Officer leading health strategy, stakeholder management, portfolio and innovation, as well as clinical assurance for BT Health.

Justin trained in medicine in London and has a degree in molecular biology. He has worked at a number of teaching centres and was previously a hospital physician in the field of neurology. Since Justin has acquired eleven years experience of health-ICT in the business sector.

In 2000, after his work in the NHS Justin established Outcome Technologies Ltd and operated this as a BUPA Group Company in the field of patient reported outcomes. Subsequently Justin worked for Accenture as the Clinical Business Architect on the National Programme for IT. He then started at BT in August 2006 working as a clinical informatician, and leading health strategy and planning for international business development prior to his current roles.

Justin is a Visiting Professor at University College London, UCL, in the Centre for Health Informatics and Multiprofessional Education, CHIME (www.chime.ucl.ac.uk); Non-Executive Director of the BMJ Publishing Group (group.bmj.com); Vice Chair, Strategy & Policy, BCS Health, British Computer Society; sits on the Steering Committee of Health and Care Infrastructure Research and Innovation Centre (HaCIRIC), on the Advisory Board of the BMJ Evidence Centre (evidencecentre.bmj.com), on the Innovation Committee of NHS Direct, and on the Policy and Public Affairs Board of the BCS.
