John AbbottJohn Abbott was appointed client partner and chief executive officer (CEO) of N3 Service Provider in May 2008. He leads a team of more than 300 people responsible for the management of N3 – the NHS’s state-of-the-art, secure broadband national network built and operated by BT.
This role isn’t just about running one of the largest private networks in the world. It also includes delivering transformational IT services that are helping to revolutionise healthcare in the UK and delivering operational savings to the NHS in both England and Scotland.
Before joining N3SP, John was chief operations officer (COO) for BT’s Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) programme. This programme facilitated the transformation of DWP’s operating model through complete LAN, WAN and telephony refresh and the successful implementation of the largest virtual IP contact centre in Europe.
John has worked for many years in BT and throughout his career he has been heavily involved in developing the company’s ICT service delivery capability and changing culture to meet the needs of customers and this type of business.
Among his many roles he been responsibility for leading BT’s systems integration activities in the Manufacturing and Industry Sector, providing managed services delivery for such customers as British Airway and successful delivery of large IT and transformation programmes across the Government, Finance and Commercial Sectors.
Born in Sheffield and educated at Leeds Metropolitan University John has lived in Harrogate in North Yorkshire for more than 20 years. In his spare time he enjoys exploring the Yorkshire dales, is a keen genealogist and is a life-long supporter of Sheffield Wednesday FC.
