BT has fast-established itself as a leader in providing networked IT services for large organisations across the globe.
This includes the NHS where it is successfully demonstrating its ability to help to deliver large-scale transformational projects such as NPfIT.
The company was awarded three main contracts within the NPfIT in late 2003 and early 2004 and can report good progress on all three contracts.
In December 2003, BT was awarded a ten-year contract, worth £620 million to design, deliver and manage the Spine, national patient record database and transactional messaging service which is critical to the NHS Care Records Service.
BT is the prime contractor working in association with other companies with world-class experience in the development, deployment and operation of healthcare IT systems including Oracle, Sun Microsystems and LogicaCMG.
