BT recently hosted the launch of E-Health Insider’s Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO) campaign at the BT Tower, helping to kick start a national drive that promises to improve the way the NHS manages information technology (IT) and information.
The campaign is to encourage the NHS to develop a new role - CCIO - to provide clear clinical leadership on IT projects and the use of information in NHS organisations.
BT has lent its support to the campaign from the outset and it is now being supported by a growing number of individuals and institutions including Bruce Keogh, NHS medical director, Charles Gutteridge, the Department of Health’s national clinical director for informatics, Cerner and the Royal College of Physicians.
Justin Whatling, director of strategic growth at BT Health was one of the speakers at the event alongside Jon Hoeksma, editor of eHealth Insider, John Williams, professor of health services research, Swansea University and Paul Altmann, clinical director, health informatics, NHS South Central and Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust.
Justin said: “We recognise that it is fundamentally important for IT projects to be clinically driven from the outset to ensure their success. We are delighted to host the launch of E-Health Insider’s campaign. Never before has there been a better time for IT to really make a difference to the NHS and the creation of this new role will ensure IT remains high on the agenda and clinically led.”
Endorsements continue to flood in to the CCIO campaign website as momentum builds on the campaign.
