For the fourth year running, BT Health has agreed to be the main sponsor of the E-Health Insider awards.

Set up in 2006, the awards aim to recognise outstanding work in the UK healthcare IT sector. BT is one of the biggest suppliers of communications and IT services to the sector and plays a key role in the use of healthcare technology in the UK.

The awards are organised by the independent online news and information service E-Health Insider. The service is dedicated to UK healthcare information technology - and its weekly newsletter is read by more than 24,000 subscribers.

Editor Jon Hoeksma said: “We would like to acknowledge the continued support and involvement of BT in these prestigious awards, and look forward to celebrating with sponsors and finalists in October.”

Chaired by Christine Connelly, director general of informatics at the Department of Health, the judging panel also includes Peter Smith, programme director of the BT Local Service Provider (LSP) Programme in BT Global Services.

Patrick O’Connell, president of BT Global Services major programme practice, said: “Having worked with the NHS since its inception, it seems appropriate that BT has also been involved in the E-Health Insider awards since they were launched in 2006.

“Too often the good work done by the NHS IT community goes unnoticed - but these awards provide an ideal opportunity to shine a spotlight on innovation and excellence across the country."
