BT Wholesale enhances the customer experience with web 2.0 technology

MyPageCustomers of BT Wholesale have hailed BT Wholesale's recently re-developed MyPage portal as a real breakthrough to the way they can now interact with btwholesale.com.

The newly refreshed portal demonstrates a pioneering user-experience approach by BT Wholesale to its 700+ customer base (incorporating thousands of end users from customer organisations). Each end user relies on btwholesale.com for information, intelligence and specific tools and applications.

The new MyPage portal has been developed in close collaboration with BT Wholesale's customers. It has been built using iGoogle's web 2.0 Open Source technology and enables each user to create their own personalised view of the information and tools relevant to their organisation.

A user can then further customise their view based on their individual needs – for example based upon their role or personal preferences.

Matt Lucht, BTWholesale.com delivery manager, said: “Feedback on the new MyPage has been extremely positive. Customers see it as something quite radical in terms of the way we present information to them and they are excited as to the possibilities it presents around application integration.”

Major leap forward

Added Matt: “Although the concept of a customisable portal is reasonably commonplace within the consumer world, it's a new concept for the business to business or enterprise environment. Working with our customers we've taken a huge leap forward from offering a traditional and very static business-to-business portal into something that is fresh, dynamic and very tailored to specific individual's needs.”

“What MyPage also provides is a framework which encourages innovation. In particular it's open source framework means BT Wholesale, BT Wholesale's customers and other third parties are free to create applications or gadgets which can be integrated into to portal quickly and easily.”

BT Wholesale is continuing to work with its customers to further evolve MyPage and its functionalities. For example, added recently was an RSS reader which allows customers to keep up to date with latest news plus the ability to access applications directly through MyPage.

Other functionality recently added includes the ability for customers to consume rich media content through MyPage as well as an online document collaboration tool called MyDocs which is based on a tool called TiddlyWiki.
