UK firms set for wi-fi revolution

UK firms set for wi-fi revolutionUK businesses can now turn their premises into wireless broadband (wi-fi) hotspots in a move that will increase wi-fi coverage and could help generate new revenue streams for firms.

The initiative means that BT Business Total Broadband customers will be able to turn their BT Business Hub into a BT Openzone wireless hotspot at no cost.

Anyone visiting their premises - be it an office, shop, restaurant or depot - will be able to log on to a separate secure channel to access the internet. BT Business customer's data will have priority which will be provided by a separate, secure internet connection.

"This is something totally new for UK businesses of any size, from the smallest start-up to larger multi-site businesses and all those in between," said Bill Murphy, managing director of BT Business.

"It is a real differentiator for businesses, offering the potential to deliver a prime business service to their visitors and dramatically increase the number of locations from which they can connect and do business as part of the BT Business Total Broadband community.

"It also offers the option to create a new revenue stream by selling BT Openzone vouchers whilst serving their customers and visitors better," he said.
