BT has been recognised for the dedication and hard work it provides in motivating young people to take part in science, technology, engineering and maths.
Chosen from over 150 nominated companies, BT was one of three large organisations shortlisted for their commitment to supporting young people in aspects of these learning areas by STEMNET.
STEMNET (Science, technology, engineering and mathematics network) creates opportunities to inspire young people in these subjects. Not only does this help youngsters develop their creativity and problem-solving skills, it also makes them more attractive to potential employers.
BT’s success in the award stems in part from initiatives such as the IT ambassadors. Launched in 2010, the scheme aims to connect young people and their teachers with those working in the communications and IT sector.
Crucially, it gives young people the chance to hook up with a BT employee who will then mentor them online and help them with their studies.
