BT Agilemedia – which already provides the technology that handles telephone voting for all the major programmes in the UK including The XFactor and Britain’s Got Talent – has now added an on-line voting facility.
By integrating its Online Participation Media platform (OPM) with Facebook, it can now offer real-time online voting and interaction to audiences of TV entertainment shows in the UK and around the world.
This means that viewers can interact via a show’s Facebook page and vote for their favourite contestants. While this is meeting the demand from viewers to be more interactive, it also allows the shows’ producers to provide extra content while increasing audience loyalty.
Today’s announcement comes amid increasing evidence that Facebook and other social media networks are increasingly being used by people to communicate with friends about these popular entertainment programmes.
For example, in May 2011 the American Idol Facebook page had more than 5.7 million ‘people like this’ registrations, and the XFactor page more than 2.6 million.
Jeremy Hallsworth, BT Agilemedia’s chief executive officer, said: “Integrating our OPM platform with Facebook will enable us to ensure that consumers have much richer experience.
“We are bringing together the social creativity of Facebook with the scale and reliability of our voting platform.”
