BT launches a voluntary work programme for the integration of disabled people

BT

The RED@RED Integramos programme will benefit organisations working  to integrate disabled people into their workforce.

Madrid, October 30, de 2008.- BT Spain has organised an innovative corporate voluntary work programme under the name RED@RED Integramos to encourage and enable the integration of disabled people into the workforce.

The project, developed in collaboration with the Fundación Adecco and with the participation of Fundación Cibervoluntarios, provides education programmes adapted to each participating organisation’s needs, as well as providing training for BT employees who volunteer to teach the courses.

According to Jacinto Cavestany, managing director of BT España: “As a company specialising in new technologies, BT is conscious of its capacity to contribute to the development of a more inclusive society.  Through the company’s RED@RED Integramos programme, BT employees will be able to use their knowledge to help Spanish NGOs use information and communications technologies more efficiently for the benefit of disabled people.”

On a daily basis, disabled people are faced with all kinds of obstacles that hinder and affect their social integration as well as their ability to carry out their daily activities in a normal way. However, new technologies can overcome and eliminate seemingly insurmountable barriers. This initiative intends to raise awareness of these problems, and to promote and create new expectations for disabled people through the associations, foundations and organisations which work to improve their quality of life.

The RED@RED Integramos project was developed with the philosophy of incorporating new technologies and applying ICT management systems in social support organisations that, to date, have not had the opportunity to adopt recent technological advances.

In its first phase, the programme develops a corporate tender for organisations whose aim is the integration of disabled people into the workforce.  During October this year, those organisations fulfilling the minimum requirements will be able to take advantage of the N-RED entity category, which will allow them to be taught the course “Training in New Technologies for the Socio-labour Integration of disabled people”, starting in January.

This course will be presented by BT volunteers previously trained by Fundación Cibervoluntarios’ professionals. They will be trained on how to respond to the needs and difficulties or challenges that organisations may find on a daily basis while developing their activities.

Corporate Voluntary Work
BT will train between 20 and 30 workers on how to present this course to the organisations which will be the beneficiaries of the programme. In this initial training, experienced Cibervoluntarios’ members will guide the BT volunteers  through the needs of this type of support organisation and provide them with the relevant tools and knowledge. Fundación Adecco, as experts in labour intermediation with disabled people, will also present a session on the key values of disability awareness, to ensure that the participating organisations achieve the best possible benefit from the programme.
