We scoop top prize for the way we report
16 December 2015
We’ve been voted a winner for the clear, easy-to-understand way we report our environmental and social aims and achievements.
The judges in this year’s Building Public Trust Awards ranked us the best for sustainability reporting in the FTSE 100 category of the awards.
The awards are organised by global professional services group PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). They aim to identify excellence in reporting across the public and private sectors.
“The judges consider whether the reporting is engaging, honest and builds trust,” explains Jenny Harrison, BT director for external reporting.
“There are 18 award categories. But the sustainability reporting prize is PwC’s ‘foundation’ award, so winning it is a great accolade.”
Jenny explains that our Delivering our Purpose report looks at how we’re reducing our own and our customers’ carbon emissions.
“It describes how our core products and services can help people overcome social deprivation; and how our people across the globe volunteer and fundraise in their communities,” she says.
“And it also lays out what we are doing to fulfil our aim of using the power of communications to make a better world.”
Jenny says the judges praised our report for its extensive coverage across the length and breadth of our company, and into our upstream and downstream value chain.
“They said we’d offered comprehensive yet easily-navigable sustainability reporting,” she adds. “And they described that reporting as impressive, clear and ambitious.”
“We’re now looking ahead to next year’s report and our newly-agreed global goals, such as taking action on climate change.”
