England star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain fronts new film from The Supporters Club
29 May 2015
Arsenal and England footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is to star in the latest film from BT Sport Films, showcasing the work of charities backed by The Supporters Club.
In the new documentary Football Stories with The Ox, the sporting star examines how two charities – Street League in the UK, and TackleAfrica in Tanzania - are using football to reach young people. Both charities have received financial backing from The Supporters Club, which uses donations from BT Sport customers to build a better world through sport.
The film charts success stories of young people who have been through programmes run by two charities. Matty, who was at one time unemployed and suffered from depression, used the confidence gained from Street League to secure employment as trainer assistant at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
In Tanzania, the film follows Eladi, a young person with HIV. Eladi, through TackleAfrica, was able to come to terms with his illness and used sport to gain confidence and integrate back into his community.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain reflects on these stories, talking openly about the issues that the young people in the film are facing. He also discusses how important football was to his own personal development.
Football Stories with The Ox, fronted by BT Sport ambassador Oxlade-Chamberlain, premieres on BT Sport 2 on Sunday May 31 at 3.30pm. Watch the trailer below.
