We’re helping launch #GivingTuesday 2016
29 November 2016
We’re supporting Giving Tuesday on 29 November – the global day that calls on people to ‘do good stuff’ by giving their time, money or voice to a good cause. It runs in more than 70 countries and last year broke the world record for the most amount of money donated in 24 hours!
BT MyDonate and the Charities Aid Foundation are hosting the Giving Tuesday launch event at the iconic BT Tower. We raised an amazing £139,000 from our BT Tower Dining Club event last year, with donations going to eight charities – and this year we want to top that.
If you’d like to donate some money to charity, just search for your chosen cause in the ‘Donate to charity’ box on BT MyDonate and donate as much as you’d like. You could even set up your own fundraising event in honour of Giving Tuesday.
It isn’t just about donations though – Giving Tuesday is about helping charities in other ways, such as volunteering. Your charity might need volunteers, or you might have skills that would really help them – why not send them an email to find out how you can give back?
However you decide to mark Giving Tuesday, don’t forget to share your activity by using the #GivingTuesday hashtag on social media. In 2015, #GivingTuesday was the top trend on Twitter throughout the day, with support from the likes of Stephen Fry, JK Rowling, Emma Watson, Miranda Hart, Gary Lineker, Lily Allen, David Baddiel, Peter Andre and David Tennant.
