BT scooped the award for the best approach to looking after private shareholders at last night’s (Thursday’s) Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) 2007 Awards.
This accolade is presented to the company that has done most to establish and maintain an efficient, cost-effective and secure relationship with its private shareholders - including employees. BT was in competition for the award on the night with Marks and Spencer.
Special mention was made of BT's investor centre and of the audio versions of the BT Forward magazine - BT's shareholder magazine - and the annual review.
BT was also shortlisted for Forward magazine in the category of most effective shareholder communication award, which is presented to a company that has carried out a successful communication with all types of shareholders - using any medium - that raises their level of understanding about the company. This award went to The Co-operative Group.
The awards were presented at a ceremony at the Langham Hotel in London following the annual Company Secretary’s Conference and Exhibition.
Charmian Allcock, ICSA’s UK president and chairman of the judges, said: “It has been a great privilege to join with others in judging the entries for this, the third year of the ICSA Company Secretary Awards.
“The entries demonstrated the breadth and quality of the chartered secretary’s contribution to the business community including commitment, foresight, organisation and precision. The awards provide a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge, both individually and collectively, what we are capable of as a profession.”
The ICSA is the recognised global voice on governance and regulatory issues in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. Working with governmental and other statutory bodies, ICSA promotes best practice and provides guidance on good governance.
