Student Writing Contest

DEADLINE EXTENDED - final deadline is 30th AUGUST

Creative writingThe BT Better World e-zine is opening its pages to student writers. We are looking to showcase an original work on corporate and social responsibility to a significant online audience. All you have to do is select a relevant subject and write an article no longer than 500 words.

The entry that is judged to be most appropriate, interesting and original will take one of the feature slots in the autumn edition of the e-zine, published in September. The winning writer will also be offered a day with the BT CSR team, meeting key influencers in the business and seeing how one of the country's most effective corporate social responsibility programmes is integrated into a multi-billion pound business.

We hope this is a valuable and interesting experience for any students soon to be job hunting, also adding value to your CV. As part of the prize, the winner will also receive £200 towards travel and accommodation on the day.

Here are a few suggestions to help you match our expectations:

  • Try to follow a similar writing style to that used in the current and recent issues of the BT Better World magazine.
  • We like features with a topical subject matter and lively, yet serious tone.
  • Use current and past editions to help you judge which topics have already been widely covered.
  • Think about the likely audience and write the feature with them in mind.
  • Truly effective CSR combines social and ethical thinking with sustainable business imperatives. Consider shareholders, employees and third party stakeholders as well as customers and the general public.

Entries should be sent by 30th August to betterworldmagazine@bt.com

Please include a contact telephone number as well as an email address. We are sorry that it will only be possible to notify the winner. Entrants must be aged 18 years or over.

The final decision on the winning entry will be made by the BT CSR Communications team.
