Keeping Welsh Communities Connected

Group of nursery children playing with make-believe telephone kioskDid you know in 2006 BT made a contribution of over £1 million to the communities of Wales?  Hundreds of community and voluntary organisations benefited from the various schemes BT provides through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

For example: Bryn Hafren Comprehensive School in Barry won £500 worth of equipment to use in their school. One of the runners up of the BT Speaking and Listening Awards, the school demonstrated a commitment to putting speaking and listening at the heart of education and promoting excellent communication skills within the classroom, school and in their local community.

As a member of the 'Per Cent Club' BT commits 1% of its annual pre-tax profits to not-for-profit causes, that is made up of monetary and in-kind donations.  It is this kind of contribution that can make a huge difference to some organisations and community groups.

BT believes that responsible companies have an obligation to give something back to the communities in which they operate and in recognition of this BT has been re-accredited with the Business in the Community (BITC) Big Tick Award. It is the third year that BT has been recognised by BITC with a Big Tick and as a result it demonstrates excellence in the way BT organises and integrates responsible business practice and shows that its CSR activity has a positive impact on both society and business.
