Dave Hughes
Regional Director for the East of England

Dave Hughes, Director Retail Service Operations, BT Operate has been appointed as the new BT Regional Director for the East of England taking over from Peter McCarthy-Ward. Dave is a highly accomplished senior executive with over fifteen years’ board level experience creating and transforming high technology businesses.

As a senior director in BT Retail, Dave plays a leading role in the development of new products and services to take advantage of the new fibre networks now being built and deployed by Openreach across the UK.

Previously Dave was the Director, Wireless Broadband responsible for the strategy which completed the wireless city rollout, industrialising the core network, and creating the one million hotspot plan. Prior to this Dave lead on launching the world’s first mobile phone that works seamlessly on broadband – BT Fusion; managing the UK’s leading public WiFi network – BT Openzone; and, building the ground-breaking Wireless Cities Network.

Dave has held a number of senior positions in BT Retail including Chief Technology Officer where he led technology innovation projects, CEO BT Wireless Broadband where he led BT Openzone business as a corporate venture, and was the founding Director of BT Mobility where he launched BT Mobile and BT Openzone.

Dave started his career with BT in 1981 after graduating from UMIST with a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

As the newly appointed BT Regional Director for East of England, Dave is eager to contribute to the ongoing development and success of his local communities by utilising the business skills he has gained during this career with BT, something he has already experienced as an ex-treasurer, and then Chairman, of the Ipswich Choral Society.

Dave, his wife and two children are based in Ipswich where he has lived for nearly 30 years. A keen squash player, he also enjoys walking and gardening.
