Chris Sayers
Regional Director for the North East of England

Chris Sayers was appointed as the new Regional Director for the North East of England on 08 November 2007. He joined BT in 1986 and is currently the Director, Local Government in BT Global Services responsible for all the company’s business within the Local Government arena, which has a turnover of c.£500M. He manages the commercial relationship with BT’s customers within this sector and leads multi-disciplinary teams who design, develop and manage networked IT solutions.

With over 20 years of experience in BT, Chris has been an integral part of BT’s business growth in the government sector. With a proven and successful track record in delivery, sales and leadership, Chris is helping to transform the Local Government business unit into a centre of excellence for both service & delivery, to establish BT as an innovative thought leader to Government and further grow our ICT skills and capability across the sector.

Joining BT in the mid 80’s Chris’ first role in BT was as a programmer and after a spell in most delivery roles, in 1990 moved into sales, working on government and local authority bids. In 1991 Chris sealed his first major deal with Strathclyde Regional Council for £5 million. Chris’ sales career continued to strengthened and culminated in Chris achieving Salesman of the Year for two years running; firstly for Land Registers of Northern Ireland followed by the City of Edinburgh Council ICT strategic partnership contracts. Chris then took the role of Sales Director for strategic bids in Scotland and Northern Ireland before being promoted to Business Director of the Devolved Government Sector, which he ran until May 2006.

After completing university, Chris’ first role was with British Shipbuilders as an assistant naval architect. Chris was employed in ship building industry for six years, and during that time was seconded to Newcastle to work for the British Ship Research Association where he developed software applications for ship and propeller design.

Chris has lived in the North East for 24 years and outside work, enjoys doing things with his family. He has a place in the country next to Kielder reservoir which has no television, computers or mobile coverage so it provides the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors and spend time with family & friends; walking, fly-fishing cycling, eating and enjoying fine wine.
