[Interface] [Ordering] [Trouble-shooting]
The Image Gallery uses a new way of browsing BT's historical image archive. Rather than asking you to type in what you want to find, the browser shows you images and lets you indicate which ones you like. The browser learns from your clicks and biases what it shows you towards the kind of images you like.
The good... Use the left button on your mouse to click on any image you like. Don't worry if it's not the perfect picture. Your preference will be picked up as long as it's better than (most of) the other images that are on the screen at that moment.
The bad... If you spot an image that is worse than the rest, you can hold down the "shift" key while clicking to register your dislike.
The interesting... When you see an interesting image, clicking the right button on your mouse offers you the chance to view more details in a separate window. You can see the full title (which may be too long to fit on the main browsing screen) and you have the option of putting the image in your shopping basket. (Mac users should hold down the Apple key while clicking their mouse button to get to the pop up menu).
Show me more ships! You can still use keywords to tell the browser the sort of things you're interested in. Clicking the "Keywords" button opens a new window containing lists of words relating to the images in the archive. The browsing session will still run as above, but you can select keywords to bias which images are shown.
Slow down! The "Pause" button temporarily stops new images from appearing. "Resume" continues from where you left off.
Start again! The "Reset" button will completely refresh the image browser as if the user had just arrived at the page. Your shopping basket will not be emptied.
On-screen information When you position the mouse pointer over an image, the title will be displayed at the top of the display area along with a coloured bar indicating the current rating of that picture. A long green bar indicates a high scoring picture. A long red bar shows that an image has been rated as unlikely to interest you. At the foot of the display area you can see which keywords currently have the most positive ratings. This could be because you have chosen those keywords directly in the Keywords window, or because your clicks in the main browser have pushed their ratings up.
When you use the right button of your mouse to click an image, you can select "Add to basket" to add that image to your shopping basket. (Once again, Mac users should hold down the Apple key while clicking their mouse button to get to the pop up menu).
The shopping basket can be viewed at any time by clicking the "View basket" button above the images.
In the shopping basket window you can choose the format in which you would like to buy an image. You can also change the number of that particular image you wish to buy, or remove it from the basket.
If you wish to buy an image in more than one format, choose "Show" to have the image displayed in a new window. Then choose "Add to basket" in that new window. The image will be added to your shopping basket once more, allowing you to select a different format.
When you are ready to purchase the contents of your shopping basket, click the "Buy" button in the shopping basket window to begin the order process. Ordering is straightforward and payment is made simply and securely using BT Click&Buy.
The keywords window contains a list of the more important keywords. You can select a keyword and click the "More" button to indicate that you wish to see more images about that keyword. Conversely, clicking "Less" will bias the main browser display away from those images.
