BT Code of Practice on the Disclosure of Customer Information

British Telecommunications plc (BT) operates under a licence granted by the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry under section 7 of the Telecommunications Act 1984 (the Licence).

Condition 79 of the Licence obliges BT to produce a Code of Practice for use by those of its employees engaged in either the Systems Business or the Supplemental Services Business. This Code is intended to regulate the disclosure of information about a customer acquired in the course of either the Systems Business or the Supplemental Services Business, so as to prevent the use of such information to obtain an unfair competitive advantage.
