Carbon cutting plan outlined
Embedding sustainability into BT’s product portfolio propositions and into its customers’ business working practices was the theme of a CSR round table event for analysts held in London on June 3rd.
The event was hosted by BT’s director for sustainable development, Chris Tuppen along with Donna Young, head of climate change, Aaron McCormack, chief executive of BT Conferencing, Dinah McLoud, head of sustainability practice in BT Global Services and Ruth Rowan, head of marketing propositions, CRM, BT Global Services.
At the event, Chris Tuppen emphasised BT’s determination to sustain its position as a responsible business also discussing three other specific objectives for the company, namely: to help tackle climate change; to help create a more inclusive society; and enable sustainable economic growth.
Chris then unveiled BT’s aggressive target of cutting carbon emissions intensity by 80 per cent across the globe by 2020.
He explained “It is imperative that we stabilise the climate. At BT we recognise that it is our responsibility to grow in a sustainable way. The CSI (Climate Stabilisation Intensity) creates a relationship between BT’s CO2 emissions and its financial performance so that they become interdependent. It is a powerful tool for embedding sustainability into organisations worldwide and critical in effecting change.”
