BT Mosaic
BT Mosaic is an online digital media management platform that enables dispersed media organisations to manage content preparation and delivery processes on a global basis.
With the rapid digital transformation of the media and entertainment market, the platform builds on BT's extensive global media solutions track record and experience in operating world-class networks.
Launched last year, BT Mosaic is the first system of its kind in the world. It is a collaboration between BT Global Services, BT Design and industry-leading partners and was designed in close consultation with leading broadcasters.
BT Mosaic's extensive capabilities mean digital content and workflow can be managed securely, both within the enterprise and externally with partners and suppliers across the globe on a virtual basis.
It encompasses the complete broadcast workflow from ingest to transmission and simplifies the means of integration with systems and standards from multiple suppliers.
Organisations using the service can embrace new ways of working and capitalise on existing investments in people and technology, with a minimum of up-front investment and risk.
ITV - the UK's largest commercial broadcaster - is using BT Mosaic at the heart of its tapeless strategy, which is generating new revenue streams from a digital archive of more than 20,000 hours of programming.
BT Mosaic is available as a full end-to-end managed service or on a modular basis, to match the business growth plans of the customer.
BT in Transport
Transportation has been an extremely successful sector for BT over recent years, highlighted by a large number of hallmark customers and promising new programmes. BT is helping transport sector organisations meet their primary objectives of improving customer services and offering a better travelling experience.
By integrating systems and utilising real-time data, BT is delivering highly effective solutions such as more methods for travellers to order and purchase tickets, or improved service information to aid decision making by providers and customers.
A specific example was a three year contract awarded last year to BT and speech-recognition services company Eckoh by National Rail Enquiries to provide TrainTracker Text, an interactive text-based journey planner service.
Innovation from BT is proving beneficial in many areas:
- Video analytics can reduce platform congestion
- Fibre sensing technology can detect cable theft
- BT Intelligent Resource Management can improve operational planning
- 'Intelligent stations' can be monitored and managed remotely
Other customer project examples include:
- FirstGroup is currently being equipped with a new IP network to connect its global operations under a £47m contract with HP and BT
- English Welsh and Scottish Railway and South West Trains are both benefitting from IP-based networks provided by BT that connect their respective UK locations
- P&O Ferries is using a BT-delivered virtual IP-based call centre that integrates its three contact centres with a bespoke reservation system
BT continues to invest significantly in R&D, including innovative transport industry applications. BT is also a foundation member of the Intelligent Transport Society for the UK, a not-for-profit public/private sector association promoting the excellence of UK technology and expertise in the development of UK transport policies.
BT Plusnet Partner
Launched in February this year, BT Plusnet Partner is a 'pay-as-you-grow' managed broadband service aimed at resellers and virtual ISPs. The service allows smaller ISPs, start-ups and brand extenders to easily add broadband to their product portfolio or expand into new broadband markets quickly and cost effectively, without the need for infrastructure investment.
It delivers speeds of up to 8Mbit/s, with comprehensive coverage across the UK via exchanges serving more than 99 per cent of all UK homes and businesses. The service also offers a roadmap to a next generation managed broadband service called Wholesale Broadband Managed Connect – which will be delivered over BT's 21CN platform.
BT Plusnet Partner is based on BT's fully resilient broadband network infrastructure with industry leading quality of service and will replace BT Wholesale's Broadband Scope and Managed Broadband offerings.
With BT managing the broadband service end-to-end on the behalf of its wholesale customers, resellers and ISPs do not need to worry about up front capital investment or ongoing network management, maintenance or upgrade costs.
Customers also benefit from pay-as-you-grow charging, allowing them to scale up their broadband requirements as their business grows, with the added advantage of predictable costs. BT Plusnet Partner is delivered through BT Wholesale's partner Plusnet plc, a wholly owned subsidiary of BT Group.
