Secret of successful web searching
Finding information on the web is about to become a whole lot easier according to a new book co-edited by BT's John Davies.
'Information Retrieval: Searching in the 21st Century' lifts the lid on next generation web searching and includes information on new techniques such as semantic searching.
Davies, a BT Innovate and Design manager, explains: "A semantic search looks at the meaning of language instead of just searching for keywords. So it can tell if you search for 'jaguar' whether you're interested in cars or big cats. Similarly, it understands that if you search for 'Paris', documents that mention 'the capital of France' may be relevant."
The book will be published in September, but copies can be pre-ordered via Amazon.
