BT’s response to Ofcom’s consultation - Conserving Geographic Numbers

Issued 17 February 2005

Executive Summary

BT welcomes the opportunity to input to Ofcom’s consultation on its proposals for conserving geographic numbers.

BT particularly welcomes the clear priority that Ofcom proposes to give the development of the strategic review for Geographic Numbers.  Whilst it has been long delayed, we are pleased that a consultation is due shortly.

In terms of shorter term conservation measures, which are needed as the strategic review has not been completed, BT urges Ofcom to instigate the minimum change consistent with being able to meet reasonable requests for numbering resource, noting that Ofcom may add additional codes for conservation later if the need arises.  BT lists codes along with the conservation status it believes is appropriate, with explanations why.

BT urges Ofcom to implement any conservation status changes and measures in the least disruptive manner possible, consistent with meeting Ofcom’s, and indeed industry’s, aims, and explains how this might be achieved.
