Proposals to accommodate geographic number demand in the Ebbsfleet region

Proposals to accommodate geographic number demand in the Ebbsfleet region

Issued 18 March 2008

A NEW CODE FOR EBBSFLEET

Ofcom has proposed that new customers in the geographic area mapped in Ofcom’s consultation document as Ebbsfleet should generally be allocated numbers with a new dialling code, 01987. BT fully supports Ofcom’s proposal.

BT agrees with Ofcom that there would be a serious risk of numbering resource within the neighbouring area codes that would otherwise cover Ebbsfleet (Gravesend 01474 and Dartford 01322) exhausting within the short to medium term – even if initial early demand could perhaps be met. Given that view, and that it would only be sensible to introduce a new code for Ebbsfleet whilst there is almost no legacy numbering in use, BT agrees that the code should be introduced now. If the decision is delayed, a significant mix of codes in the Ebbsfleet area will develop, which will be inconvenient and confusing for customers.
