BT’s response to Ofcom's consultation "changes to 0870"

Executive Summary

BT welcomes Ofcom’s Consultation and its policy objective to remove uncertainty for consumers surrounding the 0870 number range by making it clear that the cost to customers calling these numbers should be similar to what they pay for calling geographic numbers . This is an important objective on behalf of consumers throughout the UK and BT agrees with Ofcom’s stance. The proposal of removing 0870 numbers from the NTS regime is a positive first step and does allow the freedom to move towards consistent pricing on this number range. However there are several aspects of the mechanism that Ofcom has proposed in this Consultation which BT believes have flaws in them. We have highlighted our concerns throughout this response.
