Based in Nottingham, City Lights magazine is a bi-monthly entertainment's guide for Nottingham, Leicester and Derby. The magazine is full colour and covers entertainment for the region including going out, clubbing, beauty, food and drink, theatre and travel and comedy.
Over the last few issues the magazine has featured interviews with the likes of Franz Ferdinand and Basement Jaxx. Their readership is estimated to be more than 10,000 people across the East Midlands.
The magazine has a BT broadband connection in their office and they rely upon this for all aspects of their work from dealing with contributors to checking copy with advertisers. The fast connection means that they can download and transfer images and large files between themselves on the company network and also to those outside the office.
Ella Fearon, Editor, City Lights Magazine said:
"I use BT broadband every day. The first thing I do when I come into the office is log in to my email. It is important to us because it's always on, it's reliable and it saves us lots of time.
"We use broadband to receive large images via the internet and it's the main source that we get our artwork from and is much quicker than doing it by post. Broadband means we can send out PDF's of finished pages and adverts that we produce in-house quickly and when we are working to tight deadlines its really important to us."
Keeping in touch with such a wide range of contributors is also a difficult task that is currently managed by Ella over the internet. Email is the perfect method of communication for this sort of interaction, with both ends able to send and access messages at a time that is convenient to them.
Ella Fearon continues: "We have a team of about 50 writers who write for us on a voluntary basis. In terms of communicating with them I use the internet all the time". What I'd say to anyone who is considering having BT Broadband for their business is 'go for it!' I can't imagine having anything less."
