Details
The broadbandCONNECT project in Cheshire and Warrington has reached its target of 25% of residential and business take-up for broadband, making it one of the most broadband enabled areas in the UK . As part of the project, BT enabled six rural exchanges at Arley, Alford, Burleydam, Wincle, Warmingham and Bridgemere in June, leaving one exchange at Marton Heath to be enabled in November.
The infrastructure programme, together with other complementary strands, are part of a £3.2 million Northwest Regional Development Agency programme in Cheshire and Warrington . The broadbandCONNECT Cheshire & Warrington project has 4 main complementary strands focusing on broadband enablement and the utilisation of broadband services: Demand Creation; Enabling SMEs; Rural Infrastructure; and the Cheshire & Warrington Broadband Fund to provide a rapid, sub-regional response to support small-scale project proposals.
Supported by NWDA funding, the project will assist up to 650 small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) with broadband access and a further 2,750 businesses with broadband advice. The funding is helping to improve ICT and broadband awareness across rural parts of Cheshire , as well as providing two mobile demonstration units, which are regular visitors to communities across this leading broadband sub-region.
