MerseyBroadband was created to ensure that the Greater Merseyside region leads in the global marketplace through encouraging use of the latest technology.
The £3.7m programme includes a fully equipped broadband demonstration centre, seminars and free or subsidised pilots offering local businesses the opportunity to sample a range of business broadband applications.
It has had a great deal of success in introducing new technologies into a wide range of businesses from small retail concerns to barristers' chambers. The project has also helped the suppliers of the pilots to build strong relationships with participants, many of whom are impressed with the services that they previously did not know were on offer or within reach of their budgets.
There is also a valuable community element to the programme, Kensington Vision an innovative project designed to give the people of Kensington in Liverpool, a unique opportunity to access the latest local information - from news and sport, to business information and video diaries - through PCs or interactive set top boxes, via a broadband network. It is a project about local content, created by local people, using cutting edge technology.
