Yorkshire Forward, Business Link Humber, and other service providers
The South Bank project covers the South Bank of the Humber. It has brought high-speed broadband internet technology to North and North East Lincolnshire and driven down the cost to small businesses.
In addition to the investment made by public sector partners, BT spent over £250,000 to enable the exchanges in Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Barton on Humber. These went live in August 2003, giving access to 38,000 homes and 4,000 businesses.
Now moving into the second phase of the project, which aims to drive take up of broadband in the region, BT is providing the partnership with significant marketing input into activities which include subsidised broadband subscription and business advisory services.
An additional £200,000 of European Funding will be used to inform and recruit potential broadband users from the region, provide ongoing training and support after installation, and analyse the business benefits.
As an example of awareness raising activity, BT joined with Northlincsnet in a series of mobile broadband demonstrations around the South Bank area to provide a point of presence for consumers and businesses to discover more about broadband and the benefits it can offer.
