Yorkshire Forward, BT and the region's Business Link organisations

Following the success of the Broadband South Bank project, Yorkshire Forward and BT extended the Broadband Yorkshire Partnership to include three new projects in South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.

As part of this initiative, BT has made broadband available from 18 more exchanges serving over 10,000 businesses and 100,000 homes in Yorkshire. Meanwhile, Yorkshire Forward, through the Business Link network, is directly supporting 1,800 businesses with the take up and effective use of broadband.

In North Yorkshire, the partnership has appointed a broadband awareness officer to increase understanding of broadband and ICT amongst the businesses in the area.

In West Yorkshire the Business Link organisation set up a new office in Keighley where business advisors are employed to help businesses move up the e-adoption ladder.

Yorkshire Forward contract: Announced - March 15,  2005

Working with BT and Adit, the regional procurement agency, Yorkshire Forward has provided £2.2m of investment that will lead to broadband being made available in the last communities that were not included in previous broadband roll-out programmes. There are 4,000 householders and 800 businesses in these areas. The work is due to be completed by December 2005.
