BT’s International Disaster Relief (IDR) team can respond to an emergency anywhere in the world, deploying swiftly and efficiently as soon as the need is recognised and action approved.
The response has proved itself highly effective on many occasions. For instance, shocking devastation was caused by the Asian Tsunami in 2004 – and BT responded rapidly to each, deploying teams swiftly to support the disaster relief efforts.
On 26 December 2004 the Tsunami killed an estimated 200,000 people and created widespread destruction. With BT Board approval, BT teams were soon on the way to help the disaster relief effort, overcoming the odds to restore damaged equipment in Sri Lanka, and the Andaman Islands, then North Sumatra.
