Welcome to our environment and climate change website

BT has a strong heritage as a responsible business. The future is about creating even greater value for both the company and society. It’s about building on our strengths by generating opportunities, developing innovative new products and services and making our business more sustainable.

In 1990 the BT Board made a commitment to optimise environmental management across the company. We started reporting on our progress in 1992, gained ISO14001 - the environmental management standard - accreditation in 1999 and continue to make real strides towards our goal of world class environmental management.

We started measuring our carbon footprint in the UK in 1996 and have already reduced it by 58%. Our challenge now is to achieve an 80% reduction in CO2 intensity world-wide by 2020.

I hope you will find the information on this site interesting and visit it again to find out more about what we are doing and how you can get involved.
