Answering a call

There are lots of ways to make it easier to use your home phone – from simple tips to helpful phone accessories.

General tips

  • If your phone comes with different ringtones, you can choose ringtones for different numbers, so you know who's calling before you answer.
  • If your phone rings too quietly, you can increase the volume of the ringer on your phone.
  • If you’re a BT customer, you can get a free BT ToneCaller that makes a loud extra sound to let you know when you’ve got a call. Find out more about the BT ToneCaller
  • If your phone has a caller display (and you use a caller display service), you can see the number that's calling you before you answer. Find out more about our accessible phones
  • If you don't want to answer a call, use a message service like BT Answer 1571 to take a message for you. Find out more about BT Answer 1571
