Taking down a message

There are lots of ways to make it easier to use your home phone – from simple tips to helpful phone accessories.

Taking down a message can be a problem if you write slowly or find it hard to hold a handset and a pen and paper at the same time. Here are some things you could try:

  • an answering machine or message service like BT Answer 1571 can take a message to play back later. Find out more about BT Answer 1571
  • using a phone with a hands-free option so that the voice of the person you’re talking to comes from the phone’s loudspeaker, not a handset. This leaves you with both hands free
  • if you have an answering machine with a two-way record function, you can record your conversations and play them back later to remind you what was said.
