Providing information in a way that is easiest for our customers to receive and understand is a long-standing part of BT's commitment to inclusive products and services. Offering alternative formats is also a legal obligation.
‘Alternative Media’ provides standard print information, such as a book or magazine, in different formats that are more accessible by someone who has a disability. These include:
Audio -Audio information is provided on CDs and you will hear the information read out loud. This format may be suitable for people with visual impairments, specific learning difficulties, such as Dyslexia, and people who have difficulty handling printed information.
Braille -The RNIB suggest that there are around 19,000 Braille users in the UK, who are unable to read large print or hear audio information. At BT we use Grade 2 Braille, which is quicker to read as some words are abbreviated.
Electronic information - More than half of the UK population has access to a personal computer so some information, such as phone bills and user information, is available online, via e-mail or on CDs.
Large print - BT provides many items such as user guides, contracts or letters in large print using a standard of 20 point Arial or 20 point BT Medium.
BT bills - these can be provided in either Braille, large print or on audio CD, which has different formats for use with a CD player, MP3 player or a PC. There is also a text file that will work with most Screen Readers. You could also try the E-Billing service, which allows you to view your calls, change options and pay your bill online.
Sign up to paper-free billing and Direct Debit and save money on your BT line rental.
Order your bill in Braille, large print or audio CD.
